Artist Statement

I use photography, projection, printmaking, and sculpture to portray the quiet ache of growth. Humor is used throughout my work to approach uncomfortable feelings about change with a lighter perspective. Viewers consider whether it is okay to laugh or not. Through my work, I capture the discomfort in ongoing change. I often source themes of childhood because these experiences have a large impact on the people that we become. My work is playful, using humor to question expectations of who we are supposed to be. There is a tension of honoring who we used to be while embracing the unexpected growth of who we’re becoming. By emphasizing the absurdity of unfortunate circumstances, I am able to dictate how it is framed, stripping it of its negative power. By laughing with one another, we are able to shift negative energy into a shared humanity. We are constantly evolving, often in ways that feel unpredictable. My work focuses on current and future experiences, not sentimental reminiscence. I make work to quietly celebrate the challenges we face through transition.
